Clothing is our first relation to the world. The first scale&nbsp;of the intellect. The costume implies a message, it is exceptional because it questions the order and the established rules. It is a universal means of declamation and the reflection of the thoughts of who wears it. It implies an attitude. It is now a question of responsibility. It is space. But it is also time. Versailles has been the driving force behind sartorial revolutions for more than three centuries and continues to play a predominant role in fashion today. But more than anything Versailles has been the runway of clashes. From embassies imports to etiquette, freedom was only accessible not by rank but when mastering the rule : playing with the past and referencing the future. We talk -here&nbsp;and now- about those free people. The same that brought neutrality in the thinking of time and of genre. Simply think of November 28, 1973. The Battle of Versailles. American designers won the haute couture by being&nbsp;more intemporal than the french classics thanks to the authenticity of their innovation, thanks to looking with the same strenght at the past and at the future. Simply think about the portrait of Marie-Antoinette painted by Élisabeth Vigeée Le Brun. The official portrait of the sovereign wearing only a « robe de gaulle » was an act of freedom allowed by a perfect understanding of classical rules and time relations and resulted in the one of freeing the monarchy. Simply think about the clever appropriation from Monsieur of the woman’s wardrobe ... How to dress? The participantss will answer this question by demonstrating the power of this attitude creating their own costume and accessories for this unique evening : the challenge is to be intemporal to go down in history. Speech, poetry, theater… language is one of the voices of political celebration. Morality cherishes the vocabulary of spatiality. The Greeks were the first to link public oratory and architecture. Architectural metaphors are used to organize the right discourse, thinking about the order of an architecture is the memo-technical and educational means for constructing a discourse (base, body, capital). As words come before seeing, they have their true power. Naming is already acting. What is the structure of our world? What is the structure of our discourse? Languages will be the forms of the exploration, even of the fears, brought together ; bringing scales together in Versailles. The texts imagined must be for the global world. Versailles still have the power to make them travel the globe. Participants under the instruction of &nbsp;Saskia Sassen will develop texts, whose form they will invent and choose in the context of World Literature. The flag, in addition to being one of the lesser known symbols of the School of Versailles, is a very special object. A flag is enough to control a territory, take over the occupation of a space or dictate relationships between individuals. It is a real means of communication and has its own aesthetic rules. On the occasion of great celebrations like these, it is the unifying image of events. The banners are the symbols of the exceptional, made for the great festivals of History. What does the community formed by the summer school represent? What should it convey? Is a flag still useful in the IIIrd Millenium ? The students will create a large flag which will be placed high over the Potager du Roy. In addition to this collective work, each student will produce a banner that will be displayed on each of the windows of the Mansard buildings overlooking the Place and the City.
